
Prof. Besma Smida
I am an Associate Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Previously, I held academic positions at Purdue University Northwest and Harvard University. My research focuses on wireless communication, and I served as a Distinguished Lecturer for the IEEE Communications Society from 2021 to 2023. I have been recognized by the IEEE Communications Society in their Women in Engineering in Communications series and was included in the "100 Brilliant and Inspiring Women in 6G" list. I was also honored with the INSIGHT Into Diversity Magazine’s 2015 “100 Inspiring Women in STEM” award. Additionally, I received the Academic Gold Medal of the Governor General of Canada in 2007, the NSF CAREER award in 2015, and the IEEE GLOBECOM Best Paper Award in 2021.
